Adventure Life's CEO offers Inca Trail alternatives on Away.com

With trail passes for the Inca Trail in high demand, trekkers need other route options. As a guest blogger on Away.com's travel blog, Brian Morgan, founder and CEO of Adventure Life, offers some spectacular Andean treks as Inca Trail alternatives.Sticking close to the Inca Trail, the 45-mile Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu meanders through the same region – you just won't hike directly into Machu Picchu. Technically, you'll still be on "Inca Trail," since the Incan road system consists of about 15,500 miles spanning Ecuador, Chile and Argentina.A shorter, easier option is the 12.5-mile, four-day, three-night Cachiccata trek. On this route, you will hike to the Inca temples of Chokekillka and Intiwatana. At the end, you'll visit Machu Picchu by train. As a bonus, this hiking route is more secluded and less traveled than others.Away from the Sacred Valley, the 38-mile Cordillera Blanca trek is one of the most famous. The highlight of this trek is the plethora of peaks: 50 that are 18,700 feet or higher, including Peru's tallest mountain, Huascaran. Finally, there's the 47.5-mile Ausangate trek to Peru's most sacred mountain. Ausangate is located in southern Peru, near Cusco. You'll gain altitude – 16,564 feet at Palomani Pass – on this seven-day, six-night outing. But if you are looking to hike the classic Inca Trail, Adventure Life offers a Machu Picchu Pilgrimage during which you'll trek into Machu Picchu.Adventure Life is a Missoula, Montana-based adventure travel company that specializes in small-group tours of Latin America.
