Ciclismo Classico backs bike film festival May 18

Prize entries accepted until April 15

Ciclismo Classico, a leader in bicycle vacations, is presenting its second annual family-friendly bike film festival May 18, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Regent Theatre. This year’s theme is "Transformation through Bicycle Travel," with proceeds going to the statewide advocacy group, MassBike.In collaboration with the Boston Bike Film Festival held each October, the mission of the Ciclismo Classico film festival is to showcase the best bike travel films by professional filmmakers, Ciclismo guides, and worldwide travelers.Refreshments and raffle prizes will be available.For information on submitting a film to the festival, see instructions below or call Joe Luchison at 781-646-3377.Last year’s first-place filmmaker, Patria Lanfranchi, now a travel consultant and guide with Ciclismo Classico, is helping to organize this year’s fest.The festival winner will be selected by a Ciclismo panel comprising guests and staff, and will be awarded the Golden Wheel award and a free Ciclismo Classico 2012 bicycle tour.Runner-up prizes will also be awarded."Because of its total immersion into sensory experiences, bicycle travel with all its colors, sounds, heart-pounding excitement and personal exhilaration, lends itself beautifully to the film medium," says Ciclismo Classico owner and founder Lauren Hefferon. "We are very excited to showcase biking films by professional filmmakers, armature filmmakers, travelers and our very own Ciclismo guides."Interested filmmakers can send their completed films to Ciclismo Classico, 30 Marathon St., Arlington, Mass. 02474.All completed films must be DVD-ready (no electronic files will be accepted). The submission deadline is April 15.Finalists will be notified by May 1 if their film has been selected.
