Rodrigo Tapia, expedition leader for the Antarctic Dream, recently posted a blog for Away.com about Antarctic travel and a new way to experience the White Continent: camping.The Antarctic Dream offers cruise expeditions, but beginning in 2011, three days of camping in Antarctica will be available.Tapia gives some insight into Antarctic adventure:The month of November undoubtedly offers the most adventurous time to visit the Antarctic Peninsula. This is the time to see Antarctica at its most undisturbed form. As the season goes on, the landing areas become impacted and muddy. Many operators tend to discourage November voyages as temperatures tend to be colder and polar ice is still breaking up, thus limiting access to some areas. The cold temperatures, however, also offer the most impressive ice-scapes, pristine snow, and breathtaking scenery.On each Antarctic Dream cruise expedition, travelers have the opportunity to see seals, whales, penguins and an array of seabirds, depending on the month. In addition to up-close experiences with fur seals, humpback whales, leopard seals and orcas, travelers can approach glaciers and icebergs on daily raft and kayak excursions.The Antarctic Dream ship has a capacity of 78 people. The ship was constructed in Holland and then commissioned by the Chilean navy in 1957. The M/V Antarctic Dream now features the comforts of a modern Antarctica luxury cruise ship.
