Western Pennsylvania news station features Frontiers Travel

Western Pennsylvania news station Channel 4 Action News features Frontiers Travel, based out of Wexford, as the world's No. 1 adventure travel company. Watch the segment at ThePittsburghChannel.com.Frontiers regularly arranges fly-fishing trips for famous clients such as Sandra Day O'Connor, former Supreme Court justice, who experienced Mongolia fly-fishing, and actor Robert Duvall, who enjoyed Argentina fly-fishing. "And actor Michael Keaton is now a client thanks to staff members' round-the-clock availability," Channel 4's Sally Wiggin reports.Former Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Gary Anderson has been fly-fishing in New Zealand, Chile, Argentina and Venezuela with Frontiers. Anderson now has a remote Russian peninsula in mind for his next fly-fishing adventure. Can Frontiers co-owner Mike Fitzgerald send him there? "Mike can do anything," Anderson told news anchor Wiggin. While Frontiers works with celebrity clients, the adventure travel company caters to clients with smaller budgets, too. For instance, a big game hunting trip in North America starts at $3,000 to $5,000 on the low end and can grow to $11,000 to $12,000 on the high end, according to Channel 4's Wiggin. Those trips include meals, lodging, air transfers and guides.Frontiers has also experienced the growing trend of ecotourism, felt more heavily in the Elegant Journeys division of Frontiers, which is run by Mollie Fitzgerald, Frontiers co-owner and Mike's sister. Mollie Fitzgerald told news anchor Wiggin that an eco vacation could mean a trip to the Galapagos, stargazing in Chile, viewing tigers in India, perhaps riding elephants in Botswana. Fishing adventures still make up 50 percent of Frontiers bookings, but Elegant Journeys is the largest growing area of Frontiers at 35 percent, according to Wiggin.Frontiers specializes in sporting travel around the world, from fly-fishing in Central Pennsylvania to bird shooting in South America. ("It's probably the best wild bird hunting left on the planet right now," Mike Fitzgerald told Wiggin.)
